Following the government announcement on 4th January regarding the partial closure of schools and settings, guidance was published by the government on which children and young people should be considered as vulnerable and wherever possible be offered a school place. Whilst this was an extensive list, it also gave local authorities and settings the discretion to include other groups who they felt could be vulnerable.
Guidance was issued by the Local Authority to schools which listed other categories which could be considered when allocating places , this included Free School Meals. Whilst not all children and young people who receive free school meals are vulnerable, we also know some families will benefit from their children attending school and wanted to ensure this was offered, whilst appreciating many parents will choose to keep their children at home.
